  • May 2025 – Aisha and Zach presented Storm Chasers at the Game Showcase.
  • April 2025 – Ashton and Meredith presenting at RISE25!
  • March 2025 – We presented our first study on VR programming environments at IEEE VR. The paper was published in TVCG.
  • March 2025 – Our collaboration with the Mind, Music, Machine lab has been honored with the 2025 Data Sonification Awards.
2024
  • December 2024 – We wrote a piece for the ACM Interactions Magazine about the product of our ACLS grant on immersive storytelling.
  • November 2024 – Our research on Audio AR in collaboration with the trim-M lab was published at IJHCS.
  • October 2024 – Meredith and Ashton are presenting their work on SOURCE 2024.
  • September 2024 – Our paper on multi-user AR experiences has been accepted to SUI 2024!

2022

June 2022 – Our short paper on the opportunities and challenges in immersive entertainment is out.
May 2022 – Hokienauts are out for the SUITS Challenge test week at the Johnson Space Center. Best of luck!

October 2021 – RDS and the 3DI group are hosting a class about VR to the members of the Lifelong Learning Institute at VT.
July 2021 – Our crowded sourced paper on 3D user interfaces for games has been accepted to ISMAR!
March 2021 – RDS members Eric, Anjali, Zach , and Nanlin are presenting their work in a special ICAT playdate on April 2nd!
March 2021 – We have been awarded a VT CHCI planning grant (along with Chris North)!
February 2021 – Anjali Sapra and Nanlin Sun will be presenting their work in the IEEE VR 2021 poster track.
February 2021 – We’re doing an ICAT playdate on Live-Action VR (February 12th).

December 2020 – We have been awarded a grant from the Integrated Translational Health Research Institute of Virginia (with Elham Morshedzadeh (PI)).
December 2020 – We have been awarded a 4VA grant to work on VR Programming (with Ryan Patton, and Yotam Gingold)!
December 2020 – Lages and Dee are presenting their work with Hokienauts at SECAC 2020 (December 9th).
September 2020 – Lages is giving an invited talk at the School of Architecture of UFMG, Brazil on the 16th.
June 2020 – We’re presenting the mixed reality story Sentiments at the ACM IMX Creative Challenge Workshop.
January 2020 – We have been selected to the Snap Creative Challenge on Augmented Reality Storytelling!
May 2020 – Live Action VR has received the Board Choice Award as part of the ICAT Creativity + Innovation day. 

2019

December 2019 – Hokienauts has been officially  accepted to the NASA SUITS 2019 Challenge!
December 2019  – I am co-organizing the next CHCI Workshop. The theme will be Immersive Storytelling!
November 2019 – We will be presenting our research on haptics in the Virginia Tech Science Festival
November 2019 – Hokienauts presented at the Blocksburg Blockchain Summit Reception on November 10th.
October 2019 – Our work on Adaptive Workspaces won the Best Demo Award at ACM SUI 2019!
October 2019 – We were awarded a mini grant from VT ICAT to start research on field dependency.
September 2019 – Wallace Lages is giving an ICAT playdate talk on the 22th: “Understanding the Possible”.
August 2019 – Our work on model-free point will also be a demo at ISMAR 2019.
August 2019 – Our collaboration work with Yuan Li “Gaze Direction Visualization Techniques for Collaborative Wide-Area Model-Free AR” was accepted at SUI
July 2019 – We have been awarded a SEAD Grant to work on Haptics from the VT ICAT (with Alex Leonessa)!
June 2019 – Our paper “Enhanced Geometric Techniques for Point Marking in Model-Free Augmented Reality” was accepted at ISMAR!
May 2019 – Hokienauts is presenting at the Innovation and Creativity day at Moss Arts Center (May 6th).
